How the professional photography market is changing and potentially dying

A friend alerted me to this Times article and I think it sums up the state of the market perfectly. Not only are amateurs and Flickr single-handedly destroyed photography as a career, I’ve spent the day going back and forth with a client over licensing terms. Luckily, he has a understanding and appreciation of the need for a license as opposed to the other 99% of people who just think that if they hire a photographer or buy a stock image or (horridly) find it on the internet, it automatically becomes theirs to do with forever and however. Let me tell you a little something-IT DOESN’T WORK THAT WAY FOLKS!
I have no solution to this train wreck, just a rant. Discuss amongst yourselves.
