The Urban Farm

My friend is a farmer-in Brooklyn.  At a school to be more specific.  The High School for Public Service in East Flatbush offers students the opportunity to grow food and their minds at a 1.25 acre farm in the schools front yard.  Several hundred pounds of pesticide-free produce and flowers are harvested every week and then sold at a farmers market and to local restaurants.  I was invited to a picnic where the kids prepared meals with the food they had grown themselves.  It was delicious.

  1. The garden is a heck of a lot prettier than the school building behind it! Love those collard greens. I try them whereever they are available on the menu. Had some in Peekskill over the weekend when we visited Kevin and Maggie. Nice photos.
